I have this circle of people with both loyal and two faced chums as all do, and one recent Sunday considering the situation of our country, I asked them a question (deep and of great concern to me) – “What food would you love to taste before you die and worms taste you?”. I got a wide range of responses starting from Belgium chocolates, Hyderabad Biriyani to Pettah achcharu, fresh toddy and one pathetic cotton candy. For my part, I said, “Sushi.”
Yeah, I’ve never got around to tasting Sushi and thus I join the not-yet-tasted-Sushi-so-not-happening group. However my serious question triggered a spontaneous chain of thoughts, like all serious questions do. As a result, my circle of friends of various sizes and faiths realized with deep apprehension that the way the present communal unrest is, we’ll all be either killed or raped or both, before we could taste our most coveted for dish.
To the spiritual I say, Alright I agree that we’re wrong to think that only communal riot could bring about death. But the “death is not for me, it’s for the others” gang will understand our state of mind, for, WE ARE’NT READY TO DIE. NOT YET! (and definitely, in my case, not before tasting my sushi).
Anyway, I’ll be going to this sushi bar in a couple of hours (should I be hung for gobbling sushi while shops are being burnt and babies killed? maybe I should be) and I bet I wouldn’t enjoy it as I think I would (it’s Japanese for god’s sake! I’m just opinionated here) and there’s just this that I should say –
After I taste my Sushi, does that mean I’d happily and readily die? Of course not. It means I’d develop another object of curiosity for me to try out before I conk out. For, NOBODY wants to die. Not even a Muslim. Nobody wants to be killed. Not even a Buddhist. Nobody wants their hands bloody. Not even a first class drunkard. Everybody wants to live. Even animals. Everybody wants PEACE. Who in the wide world wants to be a racist and part of a communal riot based simply on politics, witness deaths, bloodshed, merciless slaughter and shed silent tears? None.
